I am a connoisseur of airports, and I recently discovered an excellent one: DTW, Detroit Metropolitan, with its sleek silent hypnotic oscillating elevated indoor tram, and this brilliant and soothing water feature in the McNamara Terminal.
Created by WET Design of Burbank, California, it references the arcing lines of a flight map as depicted in the back of an in-flight magazine, but to me seems like a school of silvery fish performing a playful water ballet. I could happily sit and watch it for the duration of even the most nightmarishly long layover, so from now on I’m routing all my flights through DTW no matter from where I’m coming or to where I’m heading.
